- BBEdit 3.5.2 Update Instructions
- ------ ----- ------ ------------
-
- This document describes how to update your copy of BBEdit 3.5 or 3.5.1
- to version 3.5.2. This update is only for use by duly licensed owners of
- BBEdit 3.5 or 3.5.1, and cannot be used to update a demo, beta, or
- freeware version of BBEdit. Also, this update cannot be used to update
- an older version of BBEdit. If you are using BBEdit 3.1 or older,
- contact Bare Bones Software for upgrade information; the upgrade from
- 3.1 to 3.5 is free for registered owners of BBEdit 3.1.
-
- The update package includes the following items:
-
- - “Update Instructions”: this document.
-
- - “What’s New in BBEdit 3.5.2”: detailed information on feature
- additions, performance and usability improvements, and bug fixes in
- the updated version. We strongly recommend that you read the “What’s
- New” document before using your updated version of BBEdit.
-
- - “3.5.2 Release Notes”: additional information describing this
- maintenance release of BBEdit.
-
- - “3.5.2 Scripting Changes”: documentation describing the enhancements
- to BBEdit’s support of AppleScript.
-
- - “BBEdit 3.5.x -> 3.5.2”: an updater application, which will update
- your copy of BBEdit 3.5 or 3.5.1.
-
- - “3.5 User Manual Update-USLtr”, an updater application which will
- update your copy of the BBEdit 3.5 manual (formatted for US Letter
- paper) to the current version.
-
- - “BBEdit Dictionaries”: a folder containing a U.S. English dictionary
- and a default user dictionary for use by BBEdit’s new built-in spell
- checker.
-
- - “BBEdit Extensions”: a folder containing the current standard set
- of BBEdit extensions, including version 2.0 of the BBEdit HTML
- Tools.
-
- - “HTML Tools Documentation” and “HTML Templates”: supporting files
- for the version 2.0 HTML tools.
-
- - “About BBEdit Guide”, “BBEdit Guide”, and “What’s New”: updated
- versions of the Apple Guide help files for use with BBEdit 3.5.2.
- You can obtain a copy of Apple Guide 2.0 from our Web site.
-
- - “ClickWarrior 1.0.1”: an updated version of Pete Gontier’s
- “ClickWarrior” extension. This update adds support for more file
- name suffixes, and fixes a bug in the Apple Event transaction with
- BBEdit. You must use this version of ClickWarrior with BBEdit 3.5.1;
- older versions of ClickWarrior will not work correctly. If you’re
- not familiar with ClickWarrior, read the “ClickWarrior READ ME”
- document for details.
-
- To update your copy of BBEdit 3.5 or 3.5.1 to 3.5.2, perform the
- following steps:
-
- 0. Make sure that you’re using an unmodified copy of BBEdit 3.5 or
- 3.5.1. If necessary, obtain a fresh copy from your BBEdit 3.5 CD-ROM
- (or, if you upgraded from BBEdit 3.1, by updating a fresh copy of
- BBEdit 3.1). The updater cannot update a copy of BBEdit that has
- been modified, nor can it update a freeware, demo, or prerelease
- version.
-
- 1. Double-click on the “BBEdit 3.5.x -> 3.5.2” updater application.
- When the updater starts up, it will display the release notes for
- the update; once you have read the notes, click the “Continue”
- button to proceed.
-
- 2. The updater will then locate a suitable copy of BBEdit 3.5 or
- 3.5.1. Choose your copy, and click the “Update” button to update
- that copy of BBEdit to version 3.5.2.
-
- 3. Once the updater has completed successfully, it will display a
- message to that effect. Click the “OK” button to quit the updater
- application.
-
- 4. Drag the “BBEdit Extensions” folder from the update package to
- your current BBEdit folder, replacing any “BBEdit Extensions” folder
- that may already be there.
-
- 5. Drag the “BBEdit Dictionaries” folder into the same folder as
- BBEdit. Additional dictionaries may be obtained by visiting our Web
- site <http://www.tiac.net/biz/bbsw/ftp.html>, or via anonymous FTP
- from our FTP site: <ftp://ftp.netcom.com/pub/bb/bbsw/tech-support/>.
- The additional dictionaries provide support for foreign languages,
- as well as some special-purpose dictionaries.
-
- 6. Drag the “About BBEdit Guide”, “BBEdit Guide”, and “What’s New”
- files from the update package to your current BBEdit folder,
- replacing any files of the same name that may already be there.
-
- 7. If you’re using Metrowerks CodeWarrior, drag the “ClickWarrior”
- system extension from the “ClickWarrior 1.0.1” folder to your active
- system folder, and restart your machine.
-
- 8. If you’re using BBEdit for HTML editing, drag the “HTML Templates”
- and “HTML Tools Documentation” folders into your BBEdit folder,
- replacing any folders of the same name that may already be there.
-
- 9. Be sure to read the “What’s New in BBEdit 3.5.2” document before
- using your new version of BBEdit; it includes important information
- on changes, improvements, and bug fixes.
-
- To update your copy of the BBEdit documentation, repeat steps 1 through
- 3, using the “3.5 User Manual Update-USLtr” updater application. You can
- obtain updaters for the screen and A4 versions of the documentation from
- our Web site.
